Over the last few months there has been a battle brewing between the
government of India and instant messaging platform WhatsApp. The bone of contention has been dealing with the menace of fake news. In what can be termed as a big step in reaching a compromise with the government, Facebook-owned WhatsApp has finally appointed a grievance officer for India. Komal Lahiri, who is the senior director, global customer operations and localization, WhatsApp Inc. has been roped in to be the grievance officer for India. For a while now the government of India has wanted WhatsApp to have a 'point of contact' in thecountry. Looks like WhatsApp has finally ceded to the request.
